The Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal or Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical team. This is a key technical role supporting project delivery across multiple offices, with the opportunity to help shape and grow our geotechnical capability regionally. Location is subject to agreement with preferred locations of Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh or Glasgow.
This position forms an important part of our ongoing investment in technical excellence and team growth.
You will play a leading role in delivering high-quality geotechnical input across a wide range of projects. The role is primarily technical, with additional opportunities to support team growth and contribute to business development.
Some duties will include:
Lead and undertake geotechnical analysis and design
Prepare and review technical reports and specifications
Support live construction projects with practical, buildable solutions
Provide technical guidance to internal civil/structural teams
Assist with fee proposals, tenders and technical queries
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
Scoping and specifying intrusive ground investigations,
Preparation of project cost and time estimates,
Undertaking analysis using industry standard software (e.g. SlopeW, XDISP and PDISP etc)
Compile and technically review reports, including EC7 standard GIR and GDR, and production of other related technical documents. Understanding of the requirements of CD622 would be an advantage.
Working with other disciplines to deliver high profile schemes and innovative solutions to the satisfaction of our clients.
Providing pro-active mentoring of junior members of staff.
Assisting in the winning of business.
Pro-active liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub-contractors and other members of the design team.
Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with Curtins procedures and policies and to the highest safety, health and environmental standards.
Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics or other relevant subject.
Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferable.
Chartered status with Geological Society, ICE or similar
Work experience in a similar consultancy role, preferably in the built-environment.
Knowledge of engineering geology and geotechnics with reference to British Standards, EuroCode 7 etc
Demonstrable experience and understanding of earthworks design and validation
Demonstratable experience and understanding of the design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, reinforced earth and ground improvement techniques
Capable of producing written reports to highest standard, presenting technical information clearly and concisely.
Works well with others in a team environment and possesses strong communication skills.
Attention to detail and a willingness and ability to learn new tasks.
Strong focus on health and safety.
Valid driving licence.
Experience of supporting renewables projects and business development is desirable but not essential.
